Modeling and Simulation Engineer
MillenWorks is actively seeking a Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Engineer. Our M&S engineers use tools like Simulink and TruckSim to help them anticipate physical system performance. They then write (or help write) the embedded firmware to implement the desired control systems, and often head out into the field to test and tune the same systems whose performance they simulated! The ideal applicant is a generalist with a solid understanding of physics and dynamics, can anticipate vehicle (and other) response by intuition while using M&S tools to verify/validate their “gut feel,” and enjoys being out in the field as much as behind a computer monitor.
REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES
- US Citizenship required
- Extensive experience with Simulink (not just MATLAB)
- Solid understanding of physics, fundamental control theory/techniques, and M&S methods/techniques
- “real world” experience; can anticipate M&S results prior to running the simulation as well as intelligently interpret the results to make sure they make sense
- Applicant must be a generalist with systems level design experience and experience leading a team of engineers
- Firm grasp of C programming; an ideal candidate will have experience with Mathworks’s “Embedded Targets” products
- Interested in hands-on system testing and development
- Troubleshooting, debugging, and critical thinking skills
- Strong desire to learn and understand how things work
- Enjoy working in a fast paced, prototype environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and high level of comfort with working in team environments
- Ability to effectively communicate with engineering and manufacturing staff
- Ability to handle concurrent fast-paced projects with minimal direction
- Ability to communicate complex technical and managerial issues to a variety of audiences including presentations to large groups and VIPs
- A positive attitude, strong multitasking ability, and an interest in learning new skills/technologies required
- Applicant selected for this position may be subject to a Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility for access to classified information
- Ability and willingness to travel, as required (generally short term travel to support off-site testing)
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
- Experience with CarSim, TruckSim, SimMechanics, model validation, control system design NRMM II, and CFD analysis are desirable, but not required
- Ideal applicant has experience with a wide range of technologies and projects, and has previous work experience at both small and medium/large companies
- Experience with rapid controls prototyping, embedded controls development, dynamic co-simulation, hardware-in-the-loop simulation, autonomous navigation, world map generation, neural networks, fuzzy logic, and/or sensor fusion are desirable, but not required
- Ability to assist peers in solving challenges
- Knowledge of physical sensors, electrical signals, analog filters, controller area network (CAN), data acquisition, digital signal processing, data post-processing, and/or ability to efficiently/powerfully present data
- Society of Automotive Engineer (SAE) experience
- Knowledge of prototype manufacturing techniques
