Manufacturing Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties will involve directly supporting project/technical leadership associated with specific assemblies and/or finished products. This assignment requires daily interaction with multiple disciplines in a prototype / low volume production environment (Production Control, Supply Chain Management, Shop Floor, etc.).

Assignments will relate to value stream flow analysis and improvement, capacity planning, producibility enhancement, manufacturing process control and performance monitoring, customer and supplier interface, product cost improvement, disposition of discrepant hardware items and leading corrective action preventing reoccurrence, translating engineering design requirements into formal manufacturing process documentation, developing tooling concepts, providing engineering liaison to factory supervision and production teams, creating and overseeing projects using risk management techniques, planning and managing the incorporation of design changes and leading cost reduction and process improvement initiatives. Responsible for product quality, assuring compliance of assigned product/project to the customer's expectations as defined in the contract, in the most cost effective manner. This position involves direct support of manufacturing activities and requires spending significant amounts of time in and around factory areas.

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Experience in a R&D / prototype / low volume production environment
  • A minimum of Bachelor degree
  • Ability to handle concurrent fast paced projects, be an aggressive self-starter requiring minimal direction, and be willing to jump in to do whatever is required to make a project a success
  • A positive attitude, excellent communication and writing skills, strong multitasking ability, and an interest in learning new skills and technologies required
  • Must possess demonstrated experience involving technical problem solving, working effectively under general supervision, consistently bringing sound organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively, both interpersonally and via presentations
  • Experience translating engineering documents for fabrication, assembly and test to production floor
  • Must be hands on and process oriented
  • Must have direct experience interfacing between Engineering and Production during the final phases of the New Product Development Cycle, ensuring the successful transition of new products from the Engineering department to the Production department

  • Must have direct experience with:

  • Transitioning complex products from Design to Manufacturing
  • Providing and maintaining product specifications and quality standards that will assure an acceptable product
  • Structuring product BOMs and establish manufacturing routings
  • Creating, updating and maintaining Manufacturing Work Instructions
  • Translating engineering documents for fabrication, assembly and test to production floor
  • Procuring and implementing Assembly Tools and Fixtures
  • Interfacing and communicating with all levels of staff regarding manufacturing methods, engineering specifications, quality standards and production problems
  • Providing assistance to the engineering operations in solving technical problems on a day-to-day basis to ensure that there is no production shut down
  • Estimating production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions

  • Will be required to:

  • Lead pre-production manufacturing runs, identify any manufacturing related issues and report findings to management
  • Work directly with the Design Engineer(s) to solve any issues which are detected during Pre-Production Run testing to achieve compliance with any specs which are not met by the prototype
  • Participate in selected Engineering design review meetings
  • Participate in the development, validation, and verification of all assembly documents, manufacturing instructions, test procedures, and test data record documents
  • Verify and sign-off complete engineering documentation packages
  • Provide assistance to the engineering operations in solving technical problems on a day-to-day basis to ensure that there is no production shut down

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Lead manufacturing; define and establish manufacturing methods, processes, and tools and provide technical knowledge and assistance in trouble-shooting manufacturing processes
  • Ideal applicant has experience with a wide range of technologies and projects, and has previous work experience at both small and medium/large companies
  • Previous automotive, Department of Defense or Systems level design experience is highly desirable
  • Direct experience with performing hardware First Article Inspections, conducting work instruction (assembly planning) audits
  • Project management and people skills with customer focus, leadership, teamwork, and collaboration
